I Remember
I'm growing old,
Aging day by day,
But I remember,
I remember the day they first came home,
Playing with their first toys,
Family visiting for their first birthday parties.
I remember the whirring of the gears on their bikes,
The laughter of hide and seek in the autumn,
The moon rising around their campfire.
I remember them studying for their exams,
Staying out later and later at the library,
Spending more time with friends.
I remember them moving away,
Scarcely ever seeing them,
Missing them.
But I will always remember,
Tiny feet clinging to my branches,
The day they first came home.

The Vast Universe
The world is turning,
Faster than a cheetah runs,
Yet we do not feel it.
There are worlds out there we see,
Stars we gaze at in the late summer days,
Yet we can not touch it.
There are oceans deeper than the tallest mountains,
Home to a variety of creatures,
Yet we can not view it.
We carry out our simple lives in a vast universe,
Spread out before us like a blanket on the grass,
Yet we do not truly know it.

The Good Side of Insects
Nothing is more majestic than a simple butterfly,
Spiders can be beautiful but also can be sly,
A spiny leaf is pretty though it has a spike,
And Grasshoppers and crickets are really quite alike.
Arachnids can be creepy but also have a hood,
Termites are hard workers as they can chew through wood,
Aquatic insects have spiracles rather than normal gills,
And Ladybugs are gorgeous but also really still.
Bees can give us honey stolen from their hives,
Yet they can also sting us and lose their busy lives,
Centipedes have many legs and are probably really sore,
And millipedes are awesome because they have even more.
Ants can be annoying yet they build humongous homes,
Cicadas have exoskeletons which means they have no bones,
Beetles are colored with the bright colors of the rainbow,
Look how many bugs and insects we really seem to know.
Insects are amazing in more ways than one,
A battle between the insects should not be lost or won,
So instead of seeing them as creepy or a fright,
Be kind and give the insects a little bit of light.

The Wood of the Snowy Owl
Who, who are you,
I have never seen you here before,
Crunch, crackle, crunch,
As you sneak through these woods,
Trespassing upon the wilderness.
Who, who are you,
The snow is laid out everywhere,
Like a blanket on a bed,
Yet you venture here,
As if it were mid summer.
Who, who are you,
The wind whistling at you feet,
Each time you take a step,
The sun not visible above the trees,
Only the pale glow of the moonlight.
Who, who are you,
Breaking every branch,
Crunching every leaf,
While wandering in my wood,
The Wood of the Snowy Owl.
